Kazemi Prize is a prestigious scientific award in the field of biology, presented annually in collaboration with the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran to a distinguished scientist at the Royan Festival. This award was established following the passing of Dr. Saeed Kazemi Ashtiani, the founder of Royan Institute, in honor of his contributions and to preserve his legacy among national and international scientists. It was proposed by the Supreme Leader that a scientist who has made significant advancements in the life sciences be awarded annually.

Kazemi Prize:

"Kazemi Prize" consists of a bronze medal, a certificate of honor, and a monetary award. It is granted to an individual who has made a significant contribution to life sciences and health advancement and meets the criteria for receiving the prize.

Statutes:

The charter of the "Dr. Saeed Kazemi Ashtiani Memorial Prize," approved by the 423rd meeting dated 2023/07/18 of the Designated Council and ratified by the 886th meeting dated 2023/08/15 of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, is as follows:

Article 1 – Definition of the Prize
Dr. Saeed Kazemi Ashtiani Memorial Prize, hereinafter referred to as the "Prize," is a scientific and technological award in the fields of infertility treatment, stem cell research, and regenerative medicine in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The primary focus of the Prize is to identify, recognize, and honor the leading scientists and technologists in these fields worldwide, with priority given to countries in the region, allied nations, and the Islamic world. This will be achieved through the evaluation of scientific and technological projects and awarding the prize to top scientists and specialists. The English title of the prize is "Kazemi Prize."

Article 2 – Award Period
The Prize is awarded annually to one or more individuals or entities, as approved by the Policy Council.

Article 3 – Objectives of the Prize
a) To identify, recognize, and honor top scientists and technologists in the fields of infertility treatment, stem cell research, and regenerative medicine.
b) To showcase the scientific and technological capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in these fields.
c) To facilitate connections between scientists and technologists in these fields globally, with priority to countries in the region, allied nations, and the Islamic world.
d) To foster competition among scientists and specialists in these fields for scientific advancement and the presentation of innovative and effective projects.

Article 4 – Components of the Prize
The components of the Prize are as follows:

Policy Council
Scientific and Executive Committee

Article 5 – Policy Council
The Policy Council is responsible for approving the main policies of the Prize. Its members include:
1. The President of Jihad-e-Daneshgahi (Chairperson)
2. The Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy or the relevant deputy
3. The Minister of Science, Research, and Technology or the relevant deputy
4. The Minister of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education or the relevant deputy
5. Two permanent members appointed by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution for a term of four years, with the possibility of reappointment.
6. The President of Royan Institute (Secretary)

*Note: The internal regulations and selection criteria for the award recipients will be approved by the Policy Council.

Article 6 – Scientific and Executive Committee
The Scientific and Executive Committee is responsible for proposing evaluation criteria to the Policy Council, evaluating projects, and implementing the award process. Its members include:
1. The President of Royan Institute (Chairperson)
2. The Vice President for Research and Technology of Royan Institute
3. Three members of the Royan Institute faculty or other educational and research institutions selected by the Policy Council

*Note: The evaluation criteria and judging system will be proposed by the Chairperson of the Policy Council and approved by the Council.

Article 7 – Nominating Entities
For each award cycle, the Scientific and Executive Committee will select candidates from those nominated by legal and natural entities, universities, scientific and research centers, academies, international scientific and technological organizations, and prominent scientists worldwide, with priority given to countries in the region, allied nations, and the Islamic world. The Policy Council will make the final selection of these candidates.

Article 8 – Secretariat
The Secretariat is responsible for following up on decisions and implementing the resolutions of the Policy Council.
*Note 1: The duties of the Secretariat will be proposed by the President of Royan Institute and approved by the Chairperson of the Policy Council.
*Note 2: The Secretariat must provide an annual report of all actions and resolutions related to the Prize to the Executive Office for the Comprehensive Scientific Map of the Country.

Article 9 – Type and Amount of the Prize
The Prize includes: a statuette, a certificate of appreciation, and a special gift awarded to the chosen individual.
*Note 1: The amount and nature of the special gift will be determined and announced by the Policy Council each year.
*Note 2: The Policy Council may seek participation and support from other Iranian and Islamic institutions.

Article 10
This charter, consisting of a preamble, 10 articles, and 7 notes, was approved in the 886th meeting dated 2023/08/15 of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.
